Dance Therapy Conference

Greetings! The Philippine Dance Therapy Association invites you to attend the:

Body Talk: Dance Therapy Conference
"Express, Listen and Understand Your Body
Through Movement and Dance"

About DMT and the Conference:

Dance Movement Therapy (DMT) is the psychotherapeutic use of movement as a process which furthers emotional, social, cognitive and physical integration of the individual (ADTA, 1999). It is part of the creative arts therapy program which emerged as a distinct profession in the 1940s in the US.

Dance Movement Therapy is used in enhancing guidance and health promotion programsin schools as well as an effective treatment for people with developmental, medical social, physical and psychological impairments (autism, trauma from sexual abuse, cancer survivors, Parkinsons, Alzheimers, ADHD, depression, etc.) in the US, UK, Australia, Japan among other countries.

The Body Talk: Dance Therapy Conference is recognized by the American Dance Therapy Association (ADTA) which is the official organization dedicated to the growth and enhancement of the profession of dance/movement therapy in the US. ADTA approved Continuing Education workshops are approved by the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC) in the US.

The conference is open to all who are interested in the potential of dance/movement as a healing art. Dance enthusiasts, professionals from various fields: humanities, psychology, human kinetics, counseling etc. could benefit from attending the conference since it aims to provide us an understanding of dance/movement therapy as a profession and to enrich the participants' professional lives.

Experiential structures will be provided to demonstrate the expressive body-mind, promote self-awareness and adaptability on kinesthetic level. It will also introduce the multi-roles of the therapist and demonstrate ethical & professional practice; and to answer to questions that relate to clinical issues and the populations the participants might be working with.

All activities will be based on dance/movement therapy concepts that will be explained during the process. Furthermore films will be shown to help participants see how DMT can be used for various populations and help enable connecting the experience with actual practice.
