VIKTORIA and Turn Me On

Viktoria's back! The MTV queen is back!

With the preview ONLY from Facebook-The Viktoria, fans are anticipating the release of her latest album with "TMO". I can't wait for the VIDEO!

This current teaser may look intriguing , but what to expect? Only Viktoria can leave us thinking. After all, that's how intellectual her music is, ever since. No doubt!

And their videos-signatured Agbayani brothers-Rob and Joey! Clearly, the 90's OPM still rock!

Watch for more of their previous works from you tube! "Sasabihin Ko Na "(1991) "Dahan-Dahan" (1993),"Sana" (1995), "Pwede Ba?" (1999) and "Dance with Me" ," Don't Go" (2005)

I'm a Fan! (especially when Patrick Guzman is part of her video)

Powerbooks Origami Workshop

I have always been amazed at what patience and beauty an Origami holds. I guess it's time for the kids to be part of a workshop that might teach them to persevere too.

When: April 17, 2011 // 3PM
Where: Powerbooks Greenbelt

Origami which literally means to fold(ori) and paper(kami) is fun, creative, and amazing! There are many origami models that can be folded by anyone - even if you think you have two left thumbs - and we will be exploring these in a one-day workshop to be facilitated by Sensei Jovita Sancho. Get ready to have fun, and be inspired.Registration starts on March 22 at all Powerbooks branches.

How to Join:

1. For every Php 500 purchase of Lifestyle titles published by Periplus entitles the customer to a FREE Origami workshop and a set of Japanese origami paper(to be given on the day of the workshop).
2. Customers must present their Powerbooks receipt (dated March 22 to April 17) at the customer service to confirm their registration.
3. The workshop will be held at Powerbooks Greenbelt on April 17, 2011 , 3PM.
3. Limited workshop slots available so hurry and register now.

Who is Jovita C. Sancho?

Sancho sensei is a teacher at the Nihongo Center Philippines. She learned Nihongo in 1996 at the Center and studied in Aoyama Gakuin Women's University in Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan. She does "Origami" as a hobby and her favorite among others is the "crane" which is the symbol of peace in Japan. It is said that the origami of the crane has become synonymous with origami itself.

Elizabeth Taylor dies at 79 in LA

LOS ANGELES - Elizabeth Taylor, who was known for her as a violet-eyed film goddess, sultry , exciting personal life and glamour made her one of the best and enduring classic stars, died Wednesday at age 79.

She was surrounded by her four children when she died of congestive heart failure at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where she had been hospitalized for about six weeks, said publicist Sally Morrison.

Survivors include her daughters Maria Burton-Carson and Liza Todd-Tivey, sons Christopher and Michael Wilding, 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A private family funeral is planned later this week.

John Apacible not Coco Martin

Are they serious or just trying to make a buzz out of this picture?

John Apacible

Yahoo Philippines made an article regarding John Apacible's death but placed Coco Martin on the article. So, are they trying to mislead us readers? Sure its about Coco visiting the wake and mourning on the actor's death but why place Coco Martin's photo inset. Sure it's a good catch for me to read on the article but I'm probably more interested on Johns Apacible's picture than other people who are still alive.

I just don't get it! Do you? Read more about the article here

G-Funk Legend Nate Dogg Dead at 41

He is One of the most distinct voices of the G-funk era in hip-hop. Nate Dogg passed away yesterday, March 15th. He was 41. Nate Dogg, born Nathaniel D. Hale, had suffered strokes in both 2007 and 2008, but his death has been attributed to "complications from multiple strokes," his lawyer Mark Geragos said. Often recruited to adorn choruses in Death Row Records' glory days, Nate Dogg exploded onto the music scene as Warren G's gat-busting partner-in-crime on the hit "Regulate." Nate also frequently collaborated with his high school friend Snoop Dogg, Kurupt, Tupac Shakur, Eminem, and 50 Cent.

FSGO Statement on Death of Gen. Angelo Reyes

It's only now that I honor him....he Death of Gen. Angelo Reyes

and the Meaning of Public Office is a Public Trust

(A Statement from the Former Senior Government Officials)

Unlike other cultures, our Filipino culture does not accord suicides by public figures one clear and definitive meaning. Thus the message of a Filipino dying in public by his own hand often ends up being contested, improvised and twisted by various interested parties. And so it is with the tragic death of General Angelo Reyes. Did he put a bullet through his heart in an ultimate admission of personal responsibility for whatever wrong he had committed? Or was his willful termination of his own life a sublime act of protest to assert his innocence against unfair yet unremitting persecution?

The death of someone like Gen. Reyes who served our country for most of his life deserves our respect, prayers and reflection. This is a tragedy to one person, to his family and to many who believed and admired him for his personal, professional and public life. For his fellow Filipinos that Gen. Reyes left behind, his chosen timing and manner of exiting the public stage and this mortal world challenges us to seek some meaning and purpose from such a tragic loss. We, former senior government officials, choose to see the death of Gen. Reyes in the light of the principle that public office is a public trust.

1. We find no honor in a death without meaning to the welfare of our nation.

Gen. Angelo Reyes took his own life in the midst of an investigation that exposed the corruption within the command structure of our military, corruption that had tainted him. For whom did Gen. Reyes die? If he died to escape the consequences of his involvement, or to put a lid on further revelations, or worse, to become a sacrificial lamb for all others more tainted than he, his was not an honourable death. The smug faces of unpunished corruption that visited his wake only further dishonour him. If, on the other hand, his death inspires our leaders to finally clean up the corrupt system in the military that ensnared him, he might yet be the last soldier to die in our people’s war against corruption. Gen. Reyes may have died by his own hand, but in truth, corruption killed him. As we pray for the forgiveness of his sins, we hope that his blood spilled on his mother’s grave will begin the cleansing of his beloved AFP, the government he protected and the nation he served.

The death of Reyes should not be wished upon anyone, not even the Garcias, the Ligots, and other alleged recipients of military graft, or even their alleged real protectors. That would be unchristian. But perhaps these lost souls in the people’s war against corruption should be reminded that moral death is as tragic as physical death. And the suffering will be much longer.

2. The investigation into high level corruption in the military should continue.

Gen. Reyes’ death could not and should not be blamed upon our legislators, no matter how hurtful their statements may have been. While more civility and courtesy could mark our congressional investigations, and invited "guests" to these proceedings could be treated better by their "hosts", it must be clear by now that these legislative inquiries serve a vital function in democratic governance. Thus far, the truth about high level corruption has obviously and apparently not been brought forth by agencies charged with this function. Neither the police, the NBI, the Ombudsman, nor the courts have shown any talent nor interest to bring forth to our people the truth about corruption at the highest levels of our government. Despite their rantings and distractions during these public hearings, our senators and congressmen have been able to put names, faces, numbers and dates to the corruption that every citizen knows infects our officialdom.

We continue to regard George Rabusa and Heidi Mendoza as heroes in our people’s war against corruption. They have nothing to be ashamed about in this tragedy. Mendoza has apparently always been honorable in the discharge of her functions, while Rabusa had to confront and acknowledge his own sins in order to retrieve his own lost honor by finally telling the truth.

We ask Commodore Rex Robles and the others who have special knowledge of the facts concerning corruption in the military that they pay their respects to Gen. Reyes by coming out with the truth, rather than expecting others to do their work for them. Truth telling is the responsibility of everyone who knows the truth.

3. Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez must go.

The Ombudsman can no longer sustain her pretense that moves to oust her are merely partisan efforts by the critics of Gloria Arroyo. There is nothing partisan about our people’s nearly universal desire to have a new beginning in the Office of the Ombudsman. The whole nation wants its government to move along the tuwid na daan and this incumbent Ombudsman is one of the biggest boulders on their way. Everybody wants this boulder out. She no longer has any excuse for trying to stay.

We remind the Supreme Court, and other lawyers, that in deciding the case on the impeachment of Merceditas Gutierrez, their final responsibility is not to search for arcane legal principles that would find fault in the effort, but to join the Filipino people in ridding ourselves of this boulder along our path towards a righteous and just Philippines.

The death of Gen. Reyes reminds us that corruption kills. Most often, it kills poor Filipinos with hunger, disease, disaster or crime because the money meant to help or protect them was stolen. It kills soldiers whose bullets ran out, whose guns fail, whose trucks ran out of gasoline, whose aircraft crashed due to poor maintenance, all because someone stole the money for their needs. Sometime, corruption kills those that partake of its evil fruit.

The death of Gen. Reyes is finally a reminder that public office is a public trust. Those who occupy public office shall be held accountable, by our laws when possible; by public opinion, when necessary; by history, eventually; or by individual conscience, ultimately.

The Whitest Boy Alive in Manila

Daniel Nentwig, Whitest Boy Alive's keyboard player, answered a couple of questions about the band.

Your music on "Rules" is striking for this idea: You play house/techno/dance music without the full-on electronics. Everything is live. Was this your goal when you started Whitest Boy Alive? How did you get this point?

"When we started TWBA we wanted to create a band that is able to play music in a way you would program it on a computer. All the members have been producing electronic music before they joined together as TWBA and are influenced by early house & techno music. This music finds it´s own roots in disco & soul music from the 70's and that has always been performed with real instruments and by real musicians. Fast-forward 30 years: we play an advanced sum of 3 decades of dance music - now again with our own hands and feet. On our album "Rules" we manifested this intention."

Can you describe the difference in feeling when you DJ or use drum machines and use synths for this type of music vs playing it live?

"It feels good to make people dance, it does not matter how you do it. It´s all about having a good time. For TWBA it is most important to be able to react and interact with the audience. Also interaction between members of the band while playing a show is condition to make the magic. ... or maybe we are just better with instruments than with drum machines?"

Erland Oye has said in past interviews that the Whitest Boy's goal when playing live is NOT to have the audience paying attention to the band, and where the band is like a DJ. Can you elaborate on this?

"Well, some attention might be necessary to make us feel good on stage but ... the idea behind Erlend´s remark is: let the audience relax and feel free. Let them dance! Don´t stare and stand still. Put away your cameras and cellphones. Don´t listen too closely. sing along. Enjoy yourself!"

Do you have any emerging goals/plans for the band at the moment?

"In February we played in Colombia and Chile for the first time and realized that we have a huge following in south America. Also Mexico has always been outstanding for us. We want to come back and visit more North & South American countries.

Last year we started working on new songs with different influences, like African beat music from the 70's. We are trying to expand our variety of genres without changing the way we play our music. Eventually there will be a new album sooner or later.

In March we are going to play for the first time in many East Asian countries. We are very excited to meet new people and make new friends there. Since 2006 we have been improving our live show constantly. Now it´s time to perform again and to convince our new audience."

An ode of English Plural

We'll begin with a box, and the plural is boxes,

But the plural of ox becomes oxen, not oxes.
One fowl is a goose, but two are called geese,
Yet the plural of moose should never be meese.
You may find a lone mouse or a nest full of mice,
Yet the plural of house is houses, not hice.

If the plural of man is always called men,
Why shouldn't the plural of pan be called pen?
If I speak of my foot and show you my feet,
And I give you a boot, would a pair be called beet?
If one is a tooth and a whole set are teeth,

Why shouldn't the plural of booth be called
beeth?

Then one may be that, and three would be those,
Yet hat in the plural would never be hose,
And the plural of cat is cats, not cose.
We speak of a brother and also of brethren,
But though we say mother, we never say methren.

Then the masculine pronouns are he, his and him,
But imagine the feminine: she, shis and shim!

Let's face it - English is a crazy language.
There is no egg in eggplant nor ham in hamburger;
neither apple nor pine in pineapple.

English muffins weren't invented in England.
We take English for granted, but if we explore its
paradoxes,
we find that quicksand can work slowly, boxing rings
are square,
and a guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor
is it a pig.

And
why is it
that writers write but fingers don't fing,
grocers don't groce and hammers don't ham?
Doesn't it seem crazy that you can make amends but
not one amend.
If you have a bunch of odds and ends and

get rid of all but one of them, what do you call it?

If teachers taught, why didn't preachers praught?
If a vegetarian eats vegetables, what does a
humanitarian eat?
Sometimes I think all the folks who grew up speaking
English

should be committed to an asylum for the verbally
insane.

In what other language do people recite at a play and
play at a recital?
We ship by truck but send cargo by ship...
We have noses that run and feet that smell.

We park in a driveway and drive in a
parkway.
And
how can a slim chance and a fat chance be the same,
while a wise man and a wise guy are opposites?

You have to marvel at the unique lunacy of a language
in which your house can burn up as it burns down,

in which you fill in a form by filling it out, and
in which an alarm goes off by going on.

And in closing, if Father is Pop, how come Mother's
not Mop?

The first single from the album “For the First Time” is their most successful single to date, which debuted at #1 in Ireland and #4 in UK album charts.

The album’s second single, “Nothing,” has been steadily climbing up the local music charts and has been ranked first by two leading radio stations in Manila.
