UPFI Film Center this February

UPFI Film Center this February

The UP Film Institute's Film Center commemorates February 2011 both as the Diliman Month and the Arts Month with an international twist.

Contemporary video works from Vietnam reflecting emergent paths taken by its vibrant community of artists and filmmakers are in showcase at the Videotheque for two Thursdays (Feb 10 & 17) and two Fridays (Feb 11 & 18). The screenings are complemented by an exhibition of Vietnamese video art at the Ishmael Bernal Gallery.

Spotlight on Indonesian cinema is set at the Cine Adarna on Feb 24 (Thursday) and 25 (Friday) as Philippine audiences are treated to selections from the Jakarta International Film Festival, top-billed by the latest acclaimed releases from Riri Riza, Joko Anwar and Nan Triveni Achnas. Screenings at the Videotheque on Feb 22 (Tuesday) and 23 (Wednesday) further explore the full spectrum of contemporary film and video in Indonesia with underground and experimental titles from Ruangrupa Collective's OK Video Festival as well as Kinoki and Q Festival.

More Videotheque screenings constitute UP Film Institute's distinct Arts Month presentation with alternative films that respectively dwell on the bodies of works of two leading female names in Philippine visual arts. Hesumaria Sescon's "Yuta" – an homage to Julie Lluch's earth art – screens on Feb 15 (Tuesday), while Milo Sogueco's "Groovy: The Colors of Pacita Abad" is slated on Feb 16 (Wednesday).

Over at the Ishmael Bernal Gallery on February 18 (Friday), back-to-back events feature Vietnamese contemporary video art and a live performance by experimental filmmaker and underground icon Roxlee with doom metal band Surrogate Prey and art-noise collective Elemento.

UPFI workshops for Intermediate Scriptwriting and Digital Photography run simultaneously throughout the month.
