Baybayin: Awakening the ANCIENT LANGUAGE of the Filipino Soul


Baybayin (aka Alibata) is the ancient writing of the ancient Filipino. Passed on From generation to generation, the Baybayin I feel it is one way to directly connect to our ancestors.

This is a 2-part workshop-class which aims to awaken our Filipino symbolic literacy and equipped us by understanding the characters.

Part 1 is on Aug 20 or 21 (1:00PM-5:00PM)

Who are the Resource Persons and Facilitators?

LEO EMMANUEL CASTRO
Cultural artist; Anthropologist; Executive Director of SANGHABI, Inc. Sanghabi means one weave in English. The name serves as the group's metaphor for the culmination of years of development of ideas and concepts after more than a decade of facilitating workshops, doing performances as well as conducting its own research on Philippine culture.

MINIFRED GAVINO
Developed the Baybayin Creativity Workshops-Classes along with other artist-teachers, she continues to develop other Baybayin creative works. She has been an artist-teacher-facilitator of creative workshops, rituals, performances, games, eco-sensitive team process/orienteering, peace and environmental camps. She traveled with the University of the Philippines' Kontra-Gapi to Europe, North America, and Asia in promoting Philippine culture through performances and workshops on indigenous music and dances. She is a facilitator-member of SANGHABI and the program co-director of GINHAWA, Inc.

REIMON COSARE
Reimon has been studying and teaching Baybayin for several years now. He is currently a "career volunteer", engaging in NGO work in three organizations which he is part of namely: Peacemaker's Circle Foundation, Inc., Integral Art Metta and SANGHABI. He is a former professor of the Far Eastern University.
