Makiling on GSIS Museum!

The GSIS Museum and the Philippine High School for the Arts (PHSA) Ibarang Alumni Association present award-winning Pinoy world music band MAKILING in a free concert at the GSIS Museum on Thursday, 30 April 2009, at 6:00 p.m.

Makiling is composed of Philippine High School for the Arts alumni: Diwa de Leon on violin, hegalong, and vocals; David Sicam on guitars and vocals; Evan Britanico on bass guitar and vocals; Otto Hernandez on percussion and vocals; and Wed Lodriga on percussion.

The music of Makiling (formerly Makiling Ensemble) creatively combines eclectic elements from the Philippines and from other world cultures. The band uses a wide array of string, wind and percussion instruments from different countries, such as violins, guitars, the T'boli hegalong, and even a four-piece kulintang.

The band has three albums to date: MEDYO MODERN (2000), PATINTERO SA ILALIM NG BUWAN (2003), and MALAKAS AT MAGANDA (2008).

The concert featuring Makiling is the third in the GSIS Museum Thursday Concert Series, a joint project between GSIS and the Philippine High School for the Arts Ibarang Alumni Association.
