Leslie Nielsen, star of 'Airplane!' and 'Naked Gun,' dead at 84
(CNN) -- Leslie Nielsen, whose longtime career as a square-jawed dramatic actor took a sudden turn into comedy with gut-busting spoofs like "Airplane!" and "The Naked Gun," has died at age 84, his family said Sunday.
The Canadian-born Nielsen's career reached back into the early days of television, when he made frequent appearances on live drama series like "Goodyear Playhouse."
He played the earnest starship captain in the 1956 science-fiction classic "Forbidden Planet" and made regular appearances on a wide range of TV dramas into the 1970s, including "Hawaii Five-O."
He also played the captain of an overturned ocean liner in the 1972 disaster movie, "The Poseidon Adventure."
Much of that changed in 1980, when he was cast as a doctor aboard an endangered jetliner in the gag-a-minute disaster-movie parody "Airplane!"
Nielsen's deadpan response to the question "Surely, you can't be serious?" with "I am serious -- and don't call me Shirley" helped launch a second career.
The film's producers went on to cast him in their short-lived television series "Police Squad!"
He reprised that show's bumbling lead character, Lt. Frank Drebin, a decade later in three "Naked Gun" movies, in which he shared the screen with O.J. Simpson and Priscilla Presley.
Nielsen appeared in several similar but less-acclaimed spoofs following those films.
Nielsen was made an Officer of the Order of Canada in 2003. The medal is awarded to "Canadian citizens for outstanding achievement and service to the country or to humanity at large."
iReport: Share your favorite quotes, memories
Nielsen died of complications of pneumonia in a hospital near his home in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, surrounded by family and friends, a family statement said.
Doug Nielsen called his uncle's death a "great loss."
"He was extremely funny," the younger Nielsen said in an interview with CNN affiliate Global Network News in Vancouver.
"At all of our family get-togethers, he was always the life of the party and a great-natured guy," Nielsen said. "He was a very good friend to me."
BABAYLAN Book Philippine Launch
BABAYLAN : FILIPINOS AND THE CALL OF THE INDIGENOUS will have its Philippine launch at the Bahay Nakpil-Bautista in Quiapo on November 29, 2010, at 1 pm.
It was first made available to the public during the First International Babaylan Conference held last April 17 – 18, 2010 at the Sonoma State University in the United States. This book has been years in the making and is the first of its kind to integrate research about prima...ry Babaylans in the Philippines; research about Kapwa psychology and the babaylan tradition; and narratives of decolonization and indigenization by Filipinos in the diaspora.
Conceived and edited by Prof. Elenita Mendoza Strobel, this book includes many voices who have been researching and writing about the Babaylan tradition like Sister Mary John Mananzan, Katrin de Guia, Agnes Miclat Cacayan, Girlie Villariba and Teresita Obusan from the Philippines. Among the writers from the diaspora are Ceres Pioquinto, Tera Maxwell, Venus Herbito, Eileen Tabios, Michelle Bautista, Maiana Minahal, Karen Villanueva, Trisha Agbulos Cabeje, Marjorie Light and Charito Basa.
This Babaylan book is described as an offering of insight and wisdom gleaned from the writers’ engagement with the Babaylan tradition. It is a meditation on the question of how to heal from the psychic and epistemic violence of colonial encounters through the embodiment of the spirit of the Babaylan. It celebrates the many spaces where Filipinos are creating works of Beauty inspired by their reconnection to their indigenous roots. It is a container for transnational conversations that have been going on for decades between Filipinos in the homeland and the diaspora; the common theme of the conversations has always been about our need to feel whole (Kabuuan ng Loob) and the need to strengthen and deepen our indigenous roots as Filipinos. (It is interesting to note that the venue, Bahay Nakpil-Bautista, was host to a lecture series entitled In the Tradition of the Babaylan in February of 1999.)
BABAYLAN : FILIPINOS AND THE CALL OF THE INDIGENOUS is beautifully designed by Babaylan-inspired artist Perla Paredes Daly. The Babaylan mandala on the cover represents the artists’ vision of the Filipinos’ “inner gold”. Perla is also co-creator of the Center for Babaylan Studies, a non-profit organization based in the US dedicated to the dissemination of Indigenous Knowledge Systems and Practices (IKSP). Completing The Past: The Seven Stages Of Letting Go
Stage One: OVERCOME DENIAL
Admit that the relationship is or was bad. You'll need to be honest with yourself before you do anything else.
Stage Two: TURN LONELINESS INTO ALONENESS
Being alone does not mean that you have to be lonely. If you're feeling lonely, it could be that you're closing yourself up. Instead, look outward; look around you. There's beauty everywhere - in the patterns of sunlight and shadow playing on the ground, the feeling of sun against your body. Let new experiences in and learn ways to enjoy your time with yourself.
Stage Three: GRIEF (Big Boys And Girls Do Cry!)
Write a goodbye letter in which you say goodbye to the hopes and future pictures you held of that relationship. This will be a sad process. When you've finished saying goodbye to what might have been, write a P.S. about all the negatives you'll be avoiding by letting go of the relationship.
Stage Four: ANGER (Time To Get Some Distance)
Write a letter that really lets them have it! Get all of your anger out. Rage about the unfairness, vent the bitterness you feel. You deserve better.
Stage Five: RE-ENTRY, REBUILDING
Re-enter the world by rebuilding a friendship or developing a support system of friendship. Let your friend be the tree you lean on when you're tired.
Stage Six: HOUSE CLEANING
Now turn your attention to the future. See your vision of the kind of relationship you want to have. Get as clear and firm a picture in your mind as possible - the clearer you are on what you want, the more likely you'll find it. Why? Because you will draw to you that which you most persistently think about.
Stage Seven: PREPARATION
Learn about ways to increase your self-esteem and feel good about yourself. You can't love another person more than you love yourself, so if you want a loving relationship, believe in yourself, and that you're worthy and deserving of a happy, loving relationship.

1st Baybayin Glass Painting
The transparency of glass.
The fluidity of water,
The vibrancy of colors
These are the elements of an art form that incorporates Filipino culture, scientific insight, contemporary art and the intention of healing.
Positive words,
Vibrant images,
Uplifting thoughts,
inscribed in Baybayin, the Ancient script of our ancestors, and painted on glass could open the gates for healing the self, our country, humanity and the environment.
A Japanese author who made an experiment of exposing water in glasses to different words and pictures, discovered that water can indeed react to words and vibrations. Positive thoughts and affirming words can form beautiful water crystals.
Painting on glass as a form of expression,
Learning the basics of the ancient Baybayin,
Healing with words, images and thoughts
These and more in a workshop that invites the artist within and affirms the Filipino soul.
In this workshop, Contemporary Art meets Indigenous Filipino Culture for building a Consciousness towards human and ecological wellness.
This Baybayin Glass Painting
as an art form is having its debut in your hands.

Kids say the darnest things
Mom listening to her young son playing with his train set
A mother was working in the kitchen listening to her young son playing with his train set in the living room…
She heard the train stop and her son said, “All of you sons of bitches who want off, get the hell off now, cause this is the last stop! And all of you sons of bitches who are getting on, get your asses in the train, cause we’re going down the tracks.”
The mother ran in the room and told her son, “We don’t use that kind of language in this house. Now I want you to go to your room and you are to stay there for two hours. When you come out, you may play with your train, but I want you to use nice language.”
Two hours later, the son comes out of the bedroom and resumes playing with his train. Soon the train stopped and the mother heard her son say, “All passengers who are disembarking from the train, please remember to take all of your belongings with you. We thank you for riding with us today and hope your trip was a pleasant one. We hope you will ride with us again soon.” She hears the little boy continue, “For those of you just boarding, we ask you to stow all of your hand luggage under your seat. Remember, there is no smoking on the train. We hope you will have a pleasant and relaxing journey with us today.”
As the mother began to smile, the child added, “For those of you who are pissed off about the two hour delay, please see the bitch in the kitchen.”
Click for Clean Air: Photo Contest for Better Air Quality
We are having a photo contest for Better Air Quality (BAQ) 2010 Conference!
This contest is kinda informal, and meant to be fun, and aims to celebrate the achievements and highlight the needs of Asian countries in the effort to clean the air in the region.
Eight winners will get bragging rights and a display space for their winning photos in the exhibition area of the BAQ Conference to be held this November 9-11 in Suntec Convention Centre, Singapore! The best photos will also be featured in the Year 2012 Calendar of the Clean Air Initiative for Asian Cities (CAI-Asia), with expected distribution to over 200 organizational members and 8 country networks in Asia! The Southeast Asian Student Documentary Award
The competition involves the participation of Cambodia , Indonesia , Thailand and the Philippines inviting students aged 18 – 25 to submit a short documentary film (maximum 15 min. in length) on the subject of biodiversity by October 15, 2010. FOR THE PHILIPPINES , ENTRIES MUST FOCUS ON THE THEME OF BIODIVERSITY IN AND AROUND THE PASIG RIVER .
A jury of film, television and science experts in each country will make a selection of three films and the national winners will participate in an intensive hands-on workshop for regional participants in Thailand on nature documentary filmmaking and the subject of biodiversity from November 25 – 30, 2010. All travel and accommodation costs are covered by the organizers.
The three overall regional winners are selected by an international jury and receive a cash prize of 500 US$ each. Furthermore, the first place winner receives a production budget for a feature length documentary (up to 5,000 US$) to be included in the Science Film Festival 2011.
------------------------------------
Theme Outline:
Biodiversity encompasses the variety of life in its entirety – from the global ecosystem to the genetic diversity of individuals within a species to the microcosms that can be found in a drop of water. The focus on biodiversity should remind us that no living organism lives in isolation, but is a part of a chain of interdependence that constitutes the precarious balance of the natural world – a balance that has increasingly and dangerously come under threat through the effects of environmentally negligent human activities.
Biodiversity is a fundamental part of the earth’s support system and its effects on human life are far-reaching and consequential. Continued loss of biodiversity at the existing rate will have a drastic impact on food security, industrial materials, medicine and overall natural heritage for future generations. The competition asks student filmmakers: What does biodiversity mean to you? What effects do you witness in your local environment related to changing climate patterns and the influence of human activities? FOR THE PHILIPPINES , ENTRIES MUST FOCUS ON THE THEME OF BIODIVERSITY IN AND AROUND THE PASIG RIVER .
SEADocs gives voice to the views of the upcoming generation of filmmakers and challenges viewers to refocus their attention on the issue and to react to the cases made by the young directors.

Theft on ATMS
When a thief forces you to take money from the ATM, do not argue or resist. You might not know what he or she might do to you. What you should do is to punch your PIN in the reverse mode.
I.e. if your PIN # is 1254, you punch 4521.The moment you punch in the reverse mode, the money will come out, but will be stuck into the machine half way out and it will alert the Police (security) without the notice of the thief. Every ATM has it; it is specially made to signify danger and help. Not everyone is aware of this.
An ounce of prevention...

Hostage taker R. Mendoza and Chinese Tourists in Manila
brought to us by a retired policeman who earned only Php 494 until his end of Php 19K,
He played the antagonist in this real life drama last night
He demanded his name be cleaned-but not this way sir, not this way!
He said he will just hitch their ride but it was the ride of one's life he intruded
He asked for demands and yet it's all gone now
He was heavily armed and brought killing knives
He wanted more attention but was not heard nor listened to
Chinese tourists who were flying back at 1900hr, flew on a different journey
Children and the selected few were earlier released but not with the trauma
Some were seated until the hostage ended past 2000
Some died before this whole thing ended
I saw loopholes when assuming everyone has died, missing the part that we can still revive lives
Wrong decisions were made, a tear gas was thrown which made it harder to struggle between breaths of life and death
Rights and LIVES were poorly valued this way
It was his silly deadly game and we all played fool by it
I only pray for the healing of the process
I want no more souls to be crashed, no more dreams shattered
I wait for the day when one of the passengers share her or his-tory
I hope my children and yours won't have to be in the same situation ever

How to earn money from home?
Whether we like it or not, money is important to us, human beings. It is how we acquire even the most basic things we need in order to live. Some people say that the root of all evil is the lack of money and I totally agree with this. From the moment a human being is delivered into this world and is buried when he dies, money is needed. We need money to pay the doctor for prenatal visits and for the actual delivery of a baby. Doing so would ensure the safety of both the child and the mother. We also need money to honor people when they die and when we bury them.
To a few individuals, to talk about cash is still taboo. Money is one ofthose things that people are not supposed to talk about simply because it can be viewed as unethical or not worth discussing. But fact is, we require cash to survive in this world. School did not teach us much about money but in this article, I will share with you a few ideas on how to earn cash even if you require to be at home as a stay-at-home mom, a homebody or just someone who needs to earn more cash without having to quit your career.
If you are the type of person who chooses to stay at home for whatever reason, this is no reason for you not to be able to earn a living. How will you be able to save for your future if you do not work or earn today? Good news is, this can be possible with a home-based business.
It doesn’t need to be a million-dollar idea to get you earning. It can be anything basic but helpful. One great example is offering an on the internet English tutorial services to Asian students. A huge number of them have been showing curiosity in learning English and would be interested to have an online teacher. You can put in a small capital for the creation of a web site and for marketing this website via search engine optimization methods. Then you can wait around for students to start getting in contact with you.~It doesn’t need to be a million-dollar idea to get you earning. It could be anything simple but helpful. One great example is offering an on the internet English tutorial services to Asian students. A huge number of them have been showing interest in learning English and would be curious to have an online tutor. Just invest a small amount so that you can have your own website and then market it through SEO. Once you are already up and running, you can just wait around for clients to contact you.
One more home-based business you can do is marketing greeting cards on the internet. This really is really one of the most recent business trend and nearly everybody appears to be involved with it. Nevertheless, at times, it’s easy to take this business for granted. People go into it without very first equipping them with knowledge on how this type of business is run. They get into it without knowing even the fundamentals of greeting card printing, much less how to marketplace it. You will find actually self-help manuals that are available for those who wish to learn the company of greeting cards online. If you’re interested, find a web site that may assist you with this. There will be webinars or Internet-based seminars on how to get going on a greeting card business. What is needed is for you to be ready to do your exploration.
Do not limit yourself to the possibilities of earning even if you are just at home. The two most important things here are imagination and resourcefulness.
A greeting card business will not only help you financially but it can enhance your artistic skills as well. Start greeting card business, get those creative juices flowing and start working up that business acumen.
Artemis Fowl Eternity Code
For this schoolyear, my kids have joined Teakwondo classes, Advanced Math sessions and Boyscouting in their new school. And they have been so happy discovering things and other disciplines.
In Taekwondo , they are aiming to pass their exams this Saturday. The In Advanced Math, Jaro discovered the use of calculators!-which I'm totally against with. And in scouting, being self reliant and keen on team work counts.
Making me remember how I used to love decoding the Semaphores, Morse Codes and other orienteering activities way back in HS. And to continue living my passion, I have decoded Artemis Fowl Eternity Code. This book was lent to me by my co worker and it's author, Eoin Colfer really made the covers fun to work on. I guess it's now time to halt completing Percy Jackson books and knowing the Gods. It's Artemis ,dwarves, fairies and leps from now on.
Oh another thing to decode is: how do you pronounce Eoin?
"Owen"
My Internet Business
So you want to own an Internet Business? You want to carry off money online, but are a little skeptical over what is fact besides what is fiction. The first company to wind up is that our big mark com world is not as scary whereas you may accredit. Yes, solid is high-tech, besides side with there are hackers and people out ace misrepresenting others. But there are typical strategies you can instrument to author what the facts and fictions are to underived an online business.Internet force becoming the indeed common and productive ways to generate an income online.
The typical business models that are apparent their are more legitimate, and proven to add an avenue to sit on a high accrual proposition from home.Reputable Internet Business will teach proficient members to model and train their members. Regardless of the company or service there are always people out there that are not going to arise through lock up there bright side to show you how to build An Internet Business. If you are new to the Internet how can you be sure that you are going to profit.
Its suggested that partnering not tell the right mentoring span commit enable you to have a better opportunity to succeed.A 10 step plan to starting an Internet ball game and making sure you companion with the right mentoring
1.) Ask Questions - Ask questions and re ask the same questions. Make irrefutable that the person is answering the questions the identical way. If someone is misleading you then nine out of ten times will meal up competent stories. Keep a useful log of there responses and commence categorical they free-for-all up.
2.) Search Your Mentors Name - If you are utterance to someone about there business ask for able name besides correct spelling. Tell them you are alacrity to Google also Yahoo to check them outward. If honest they are not motion to have a problem veil that. acknowledge their data.
3.) play ball To See if There Is A Team Effort- It is crucially important to make sure there is a duo enterprise. If well-qualified are not team trainings, or distinctive mentors to talk to then I would be shy about contact with your genie after you join. Make sure to ask them if they swear by team trial calls or if there are other leaders that can support you build your online business.
4.) Testimonials - ask for Testimonials. Most leaders will have a testimonial page for you to view. HINT: Make sure they have pictures or audio. It is harder to forge testimonials when you have a impart of someone or an audio.
5.) Don't Be Pressured - Making a business settlement is big.You should not be pressured or feel like you have to make a decision like now. If someone pressures you to join. Then I would back soon. Make decided you finish in clover with your decision.
6.) Plan of Action - What is the Plan of Action once you join? What is your responsibilities? How negotiate those responsibilities allow you to negotiate money online? How long before you envisage a help? Ask These questions. Don't fall for that you regard little to no work. This will impersonate your business further you wanting to clearly understand what your task is to having a successful business.
7.) What Sets Them Apart - Why are they different then fragment other pattern or mentoring team. Why should you get together them. Its not always about How much money they make, how are they going to teach you to earn money online.
8.) Marketing further Advertising - This is The core of your enterprise. If they don't opine a marketing or advertising vim you will not earn money online cover any Internet reaction. impel Sure To Ask them, regard them perform exact, and what your advertising expenses cede be. . HINT: Marketing is not one source it is multiple sources that work together to bring quality traffic to your plant. Don't fall for we swear by unrivaled marketing and advertising firm that bequeath earn you an extraordinary income.
9.)The Automated Question - Automated Business are the gesture of the future. Everyone wants automated. No work and you will earn money online. That is absolutely false. Anyone who is successful with an Internet Business will impart you it has taken some work. Watch because over hyped statements like you will not have to wind up light to no work also you entrust make all sorts of money. That is just not true! Warning bells should go off.
10.) Explanation Calls - Every felicitous team and teacher will presume true a call location you culpability invite punch clients to learn more about the opportunity Find out if they affirm something like that to help bury your endeavors. These are a baseline of questions that you should request anyone that you are partnering with. Your biggest chance to earn capital online is by networking veil the pertinent turn of people. Its your time and your business, and you may rejoice in the person you are speaking to. But liking someone is not going to allow you to build a constructive Internet racket
A Letter to Noynoy
You are now swamped with suggestions and advice, but just the same, I hope you’ll have time to read what this octogenarian has to say.
You were not my choice in the last election but since our people have spoken, we must now support you and pray that you prevail. But first, I must remind you of the stern reality that your drumbeaters ignore: you have no noble legacy from your forbears. It is now your arduous job to create one yourself in the six years that you will be the single most powerful Filipino. Six years is too short a time — the experience in our part of the world is that it takes at least one generation — 25 years — for a sick nation to recover and prosper. But you can begin that happy process of healing.
Bear in mind that the past weighs heavily on all of us because of the many contradictions in it that we have not resolved, whose resolutions would strengthen us as a nation. This past is now your burden, too. Let us start with the fact that your grandfather collaborated with the Japanese. Your father was deeply aware of this, its stigma, its possibilities. He did not leave any legacy because he did not become president. He was a brilliant and courageous politician. He was an enterprising journalist; he had friends in journalism who can attest to his effulgent vision, who did not profit from his friendship, among them Nestor Mata, Gregorio Brillantes — you may consult them. I cannot say I did not profit — he bought many books from my shop and when he was in Marcos’s prison, your mother brought books from my shop to him.
Forgive me for giving you this unsolicited advice. First, beware of hubris; you are surrounded by panderers who will tell you what is nice to hear. You need to be humble always and heed your conscience. When Caesar was paraded in ancient Rome before the cheering multitudes, there was always a man chanting behind him: “Remember, you are mortal.”
I say to you, remember, the poor — some of them in your own hacienda — will be your ultimate judge.
From your comfortable and privileged cocoon, you know so little of our country and people. Seek the help of the best — and the best do not normally want to work in government and neither will they approach you. You have to seek them.
Be the revolutionary your father wanted to be and don’t be scared or wary of the word “revolution.” It need not be always bloody. EDSA I was not. Your father wanted to destroy the most formidable obstacle to our progress — the Oligarchy to which you and your family belong. To succeed, you have to betray your class. If you cannot smash the oligarchy, at least strive to have their wealth develop this country, that they bring back the billions they stashed abroad. You cannot do this in six years, but you can begin.
Prosecute the crooks. It is difficult, thankless and even dangerous to do this. Your mother did not do it — she did not jail Imelda who was the partner in that conjugal dictatorship that plundered this nation. Watch her children — they were much too young to have participated in that looting but they are heirs to the billions which their parents stashed abroad. Now the Marcoses are on the high road to power, gloating, snickering at our credulity and despicable amnesia.
You know the biggest crooks in and out of government, those powerful smugglers, thieves, tax cheats — all you really need is guts to clobber them. Your father had lots of it — I hope he passed on to you most of it.
And most of all, now that you have the muscle to do it, go after your father’s killers. Blood and duty compel you to do so. Cory was only his wife — you are the anointed and only son. Your regime will be measured by how you resolve this most blatant crime that robbed us of a true leader.
And, finally, your mother. We loved her — she united us in ousting an abominable dictator. But she, too, did not leave a shining legacy for her presidency was a disaster. She announced a revolutionary government but did nothing revolutionary. She promised land reform but did not do it. And most grievous of all — she transformed the EDSA I revolution into a restoration of the oligarchy.
|She became president only because her husband was murdered and you became president elect only because your mother died. Still, you are your father’s son and may you now — for the good of this country and people — scale the heights he and your mother never reached.
I am 85 and how I despair over how three generations of our leaders failed! Before I go, please let me see this unhappy country begin to be a much better place than the garbage dump our leaders and people have made it. You can be this long awaited messiah but only if you are brave enough and wise enough to redeem your father’s aborted promise.
Hopefully yours,
F. Sionil Jose

Invitation to The Quantum-Touch Live Workshop
(www.nancyhoacademy .com)
The Quantum-Touch represents a major breakthrough in the art of hands-on healing. Whether you are a complete novice, a professional chiropractor, physical therapist, body worker, healer, or other health professional, The Quantum-Touch allows you a dimension of power in your work that heretofore has not seemed possible.
This course clearly teaches you to use special breathing techniques to raise your energy level so high that with a slight touch, you can see postural corrections spontaneously occur as bones gently glide back into their correct alignment. Beyond this, pain and inflammation are rapidly reduced and healing is reduced and healing is profoundly accelerated. The work is so easy that even children naturally learn to do it, yet so powerful, it is endorsed by physicians, acupuncturists and chiropractors. Since the body knows how to heal itself, the practitioner need only apply the energy to affected areas. For the millions suffering from neck or back pain, this may be the safest, fastest and most effective treatment ever discovered.
The Quantum-Touch can also be applied to a wide variety of situations such as distant healing, to help balance emotional distress, or even to heal your pets. The future is now and The Quantum-Touch is not only a profound discovery, but also an essential human skill.
Here are just some of the things you will learn:
* You will learn a series of breathing and body awareness exercises to help you focus and amplify life-force energy. This is the core technique that is used in The Quantum-Touch. It is so easy and natural to learn, we’ve had little children and great grandparents pick it up easily. I’m sure that you will too.
* You will learn how to bring down pain and inflammation in record time. All by itself, this is an invaluable skill. It seems that there are always people in pain and it is a blessing to have something you can do to really help.
* You will learn that you can absolutely observe bones automatically adjusting themselves with a light touch.(Actually, the body moves them into correct alignment. You don’t have to figure it out any more than you need to understand how you digest your breakfast.) This may well be the easiest as well as the most effective way to reduce or eliminate back pain.
* You will learn how to help reduce or eliminate back pain and get faster and better results than you have ever thought possible. We have dozens of chiropractors that are now using The Quantum-Touch because it is so effective.
* You will learn how to use an extraordinary distant healing method to get truly outstanding results. When those you love are not near and you want to help, don’t feel helpless because there is something significant you can do. Distant healing with The Quantum-Touch is tremendously effective.
* You will learn how to amplify the power of your sessions by work with Chakras, Toning and Vortexing the life-force energy. This truly ups the power of your sessions tremendously.
* You will learn to use the Amplified Resonance Technique to turbo charge your own sessions so they have a power similar to a group sessions. This is the most powerful technique presented in the book, video or basic workshop. This allows individuals to run energy as if they were a whole group of people.
* You will learn how to work with pets and other animals. It’s a great joy to use this work with animals as they usually respond amazingly quickly.

Reminders to Voters
Reminders to Voters
Here are some helpful reminders to remember on Election Day. Please take a few minutes to read it and share with your family and friends.
Know your precinct number before the actual election. Ask your local Comelec or go to Comelec's Precinct Finder athttp://www.comelec. gov.ph/precinctf inder/precinctfi nder.aspx..(It really works but I guessit's slower now after only a day to vote)
Prepare your codigo. Prepare a list of candidates of choice before going to your precinct to make the voting process faster.
Polls open at exactly 7:00am on May 10 and close at 6:00 pm. Try to be there before opening in case there’s a line. Remember since automated election is new, you should expect a lot of confusion and longer voting time so VOTE EARLY.
Make a visual inspection of the ballot provided by the Board of Election Inspector (BEI). Make sure the ballot is clean and free of marks before accepting it from the BEI. Do not accept ballots with marks or dirt because the PCOS machines may be unable to read them. You get ONE CHANCE to ask for a change of ballot.
Use only the pen provided by the BEI in shading.
Make sure you fully shade the ovals, or the machine might reject your ballot for having "ambiguous marks." DO NOT check, line, cross, dot or half-shade. Make an effort to shade within the outline of the oval.
Do not over-vote, otherwise the PCOS machine will not read the votes for that position. Vote only for the number of candidates allowed per position. The allowable number will be stipulated in your ballot. You may, however, vote for less than the required number.
Do not fold the ballot.
Only one ballot per voter. You will not be given another ballot if you make a mistake while voting.
Your ballot will only be read by one specific PCOS Unit to which it was pre-registered. Make sure you line up at the correct machine.
You get FOUR tries to feed the ballot through the PCOS Unit. You can put it in forward, backward, right side up or back side up so relax and make sure you get the ballot through in four tries.
After inserting your ballot into the PCOS Unit, wait for the read out to see if your ballot was successfully scanned. It should read: "Congratulations! Your ballot has been scanned."
If a precinct runs out of ballots, a voter can still cast his vote in the next nearest precinct. The BEI should accompany the voter after giving the latter a certification.
Only the BEI can hand out ballots. Not even local officials, Comelec personnel and Smartmatic technicians can interfere. Also, no one should tinker with the PCOS machines during voting time.
Voters should makes sure they sign the voters’ list at the start, and have their fingernail marked with indelible ink at the end. This is one safeguard against "flying voters".
Make sure you affix your signature and thumbprints in the necessary forms.
At the end of the voting period, the PCOS Unit will print out the vote count on a paper, similar to a cash register receipt. The print out will be put in a sealed box and sent to Comelec for proper disposition. The machine will also count the number of voters based on ballots inserted into each PCOS Unit. Make sure to watch the screen for voter count as well as other important messages it may display.
The allotted voting time is from 7am to 6pm. Voters who are within 30 meters from the precinct or are still in line after 6pm can still vote. They should have their names listed down by the BEI. Voting should continue until everyone within 30 meters of the precinct or in line has voted.
Armed police, military, para-military forces, security guards, barangay officials, armed goons and supporters of politicians who are campaigning are barred from the polling precinct. The BEI should send them out.
Check your precinct and confirmed registration here.

1st Bio:Fiction Science, Art & Filmfestival, Vienna
The 1st Bio:Fiction Science, Art & Filmfestival aims at attracting public awareness to synthetic biology and its ramifications for our daily life in the future.
Synthetic biology is the design and construction of new biological systems not found in nature. Synthetic biology aims at creating new forms of life for practical purposes. By applying engineering principles to biology scientists will be able to design life forms much different from breeding or traditional genetic engineering.
We want to encourage filmmakers to share their cinematic visions of a present or future society shaped by synthetic biology. What is your view on a world living with synthetic life forms? Your approach is up to you - the filmmaker, scientists or artist - the entries can be on science, fiction, or science fiction. We welcome regular short film, animation or documentary film. The main criteria is that synthetic biology has to be reflected somehow in the work, but how you do it is up to you.
Prizes will be awarded in the following categories:
Bio:Fiction Award – Short Fiction
Bio:Fiction Award – Documentary Film
Bio:Fiction Award - Animation
Online-Audience Award
Special Award of the Jury
(the prize money in each category will be announced soon)
On http://www.bio- fiction.com you will find more useful and inspiring information on synthetic biology, the entry form and the regulations of the filmfestival.
The nominated films will be presented in public at the festival event in Vienna, Austria, in May 2011. Finally, a Bio:Fiction Award ceremony will build the highlight of the festival.
The deadline for film entries is the 15th of July 2010
There is no entry fee for submitting films.

Mother's Day
Mother's Day should be celebrated by mothers with their children. So to the fathers, make tons of ways to let your children be a day closer to their mothers for this only happens once a year for God's sake.

PHOTOHOLIC STREET PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP (Apr 24-25, 2010)
Raw. Chaotic. Busy. Organic. STREET.
Learn the basics of one of the most rewarding and provocative forms of photography: STREET PHOTOGRAPHY. Travel Factor is proud to introduce it’s latest PHOTOHOLIC offering, PHOTOHOLIC STREET PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP. Compressed into one convenient weekend, take a crash course of the fundamentals and get the chance to shoot on-site with pro photographer Alanah Torralba supervising.
About the photographer:
Twenty-three year old photographer Alanah Torralba will shoot anywhere and everywhere. Taking pleasure in the obscurities of Manila’s daily grind and the slow unfolding of its romances, she adores these streets with her camera. Her works have been published in major local and international publications such as The International Herald Tribune, TIME magazine’s website, the Philippine Daily Inquirer and the Philippine Star, among others. She has also been part of several exhibits. After her two-year stint as photojournalist for Frankfurt-based European Pressphoto Agency, she is now a freelance photographer and is hoping to do more documentary work.
