A DECADE OF MUSICAL FLIGHT: TALAHIB’s Mga Awit ng Pag-ibig at Digmaan Debut Album Lauch.

TONIGHT at 10:00 pm, December 9, 2011 where else but The 70’s Bistro Anonas.

TALAHIB band was formed in December 2001 performing at the Payatas Tragedy Benefit Concert dubbed as Paskuhan sa Payatas Benefit Event. They began as an acoustic folk group promoting peoples music. Their early gigs where touring Pinas exposing them to traditional music of the indigenous tribes. This cultural immersion shaped TALAHIB and its music.

The event is free. No ticket at the gates. Woot! So purchase their CD for Php250 only. Make it your Christmas gift-ss!

Oh by the way,one can also donate used clothes which will serve as a Pamaskong Handog to a Mangyan community in Puerto Galera.

6th Firefly Brigade Christmas Gift-giving Ride

Fireflies never cease to amaze me. My kids and I love these beautiful tiny creatures and we had debunked the notion that there is a ghost when there is a firefly!

I have been blessed and was wow-ed to meet the WOW Pinay and join them during their WOW Pinay F1rst Anniversary Ride. Napa WOW talaga ako dahil sa kanilang open arms, their humility and calm strength riding the bike- mapa TIKLOP man o Mt. Bike or the ULTIMATE-de TIKLOP na Mountain Bike argh!!!

But I guess, that's it - whatever, whoever, whichever way, BIKING is an ADVOCACY not an Elite group-ing so go grab your BIKE and RIDE! yeah baby!

Hence, I am PROUDly reposting this another worthy ride from a WOW Pinay and a very important "LIGHT" of The Firefly Brigade.....

Each year for the past five years, we don our santa claus and fairy costumes to go around Metro Manila to give out lootbags to kariton families and roadside public servants along our usual bike commute routes to school, work or errands.

Be a part of this annual yuletide CMR... no registration fees to be collected.

Requirements for joining the ride:

1) A happy yuletide disposition and willingness and physical capacity to carry at least 2 lootbags in your own backpack for the duration of the ride

*In case of back problems, you can be our candy man or woman... carry candies for giving away to kids, street families, traffic enforcers, takatak boys/girls and bystanders.

2) Contribute two lootbags (more if you like!) for the ride

3) Wear a Xmas Costume or have a deck your bicycle with xmas bling!

4) If under 18 years of age, must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

5) Must have blinkers, wear a helmet (if not wearing a santa hat),

6) Enough water and ride trail mix for energy:)

Manong Noel Cabangon and I used to do "huntahans" at the old Kontra-GaPi tambayan during the 95-ish days. I love that phase as the era when Manong Gary, Koyang Jess, Ato Mariano even Lourd de Veyra were familiar faces at the UPD Faculty Center Parking Lot- not because they have their vehicles to park, but because they happily stroll to tambay with orgs like us. Only Conrado de Quiros and Sir Edru Abraham would be seen driving. Oh and how we wait for Third Paran and Randy David to park. So kilig,kilig,kilig. For the Theater peeps, I would see Michelle Aldana, Rico G., Joey Ting, John Lapuz, Uge, Harlene Bautista-Sarmiento and Banaue Miclat at the Bulwagan. This was how simple my fave stars and performing artists were and still are!Okay, let's add Jolina M. Escueta (Congrats!)

Going back, Manong Noel, like Manong Gary has been in the Music Industry for so many years. And ore than their great song writings, they have once tried to enter the POP scene. Remember the POP competition? Oh well. And then came the McDonalds commercial which in due respect is more than the pay for an unknown client which eventually was into hamburgers. Its jingle "Kanlungan" was way beyond a love song my dear - IT IS POLITICAL! It is from BUKLOD. Go search who BUKLOD was and is so you'd know Tatsulok than Bamboo's, wait with Leah, and nap in Oyayi ng Mundo...

Tonight, Manong Noel will again conquer the world. He will be at the Music Museum with Nina and Ebe Dancel then tomorrow with Nina and Baihana but he is really one simpleng Musikero.

I bumped into him and he'd remember the UP KG days. But now, we talk about Reiki Healing, energies, advocacy while dining at Conspiracy , but He and I are still the same day dreamers. The only thing that changed maybe, all these has come to life now. Fruition has arrived!

Have you ever felt you knew someone not just from the Social Media but is really close to that person and that the feeling, the energy is somehow mutual? I guess that's the "past life" concept!

I met Aze through Lirio of Elemento during Dott's album launch st B-Side. Admittedly, rekindling with the group after 13 years and meeting Aze gave me a newer LIGHT. Aze wanted to thank me for blogging about her previous exhibit. I asked if I can embrace her in return. You see, I blah blah blogged because I like her artworks and I want to feel the EVENT. More than that, I blogged about it to BE heard and share that LOVE.

That night, Aze invited me to the opening of her upcoming exhibit at nearby Yadu. But for some reasons, I was not able to attend. As I would put it now, I was supposed to BE there when Aze Ong had its Opening, but hey, going in full circle, it's never too late!

So, let's all BE jamming to the exhibit's Closing Performance, TONIGHT 1900hr at Yadu, inside The Collective, on Malugay St. Makati City

Myra’s Tortas of Cebu

One night, I was lucky enough to have a conversation with a dear Uncle and we were wondering whatever happened to our bloodline in Cebu. He shared his story about a doctor he met during his Heart Center check up. I knew we had relatives in Cebu because as far as I can remember,when I had to fly to Cebu then ride NN Ferry to finish my thesis about Bohol's Sustainable Community-based Tourism , Mama and Lola learned that I'd pass Cebu, so they reminded me to mention "Atty. Mauro's" name and Cebuanos would know where I could stay. But I did not do so, because after all, I would not stay in Cebu nga-I had to go research in Tagbilaran,Bohol.

Yesterday, with the sudden 45-minute downpour in Manila, I was supposed to be walking inside the walls of Intramuros and enjoy The Manila Ocean Park, but opted to go malling . I was stuck in La Loma and just had a rolling tour of factories, cemeteries and Mila's, PingPing and a whole lotta Mila's Lechon. So I began to wonder, who's the real Mila's here? . Isn't Mila a great name,huh! I then had the sudden craving and started comparing Mila's and ZUBUCHON (Cebu's lechon). But about Cebu and its gastronomy, I'm missing them Cebu tarts!

My taste buds and my hunger was ignited just waiting ang BEing in that floody traffic jam. To keep me entertained, I started searching the Internet cloud for the weather updates and alternative tour in QC. And so, with wi-fi tech the answer flashed ! I even saw my Auntie's post re Myra's Tarts. Social Media Power! Hence, I found my tart and my Cebu BLOODline while the great SUN appeared and the waters subsided. Yeah,SUN!

Under the Lord's Shadows Photo and Multimedia Exhibit

A photo and multimedia exhibit on Mindanao by documentary photographer Jes Aznar opens on November 23, 2011 at Kanto Artists-Run Space in The Collective Makati as part of the activities marking the second anniversary of the Ampatuan massacre.

Maguindanao is a place where people flee their homes in the middle of the night to escape the fury of conflict; where children crawl under running mills for morsels of corn; where 58 people are massacred under a glistening sun to keep a ruling clan in power; where babies endure the damp earth of makeshift evacuation shelters; where young men are trained to kill to protect the mighty and the powerful.

Greed and power brought outsiders to Mindanao, taking advantage of those in far-flung areas and in the remotest communities. The island's geographical distance from the rest of the country made it easy for ruling clans to plunder its resources and abuse its people. The powers-that-be spawned wars to justify armaments and their slice of the trillion-a-year national budget. The evacuees are forced on the run to escape manufactured conflicts.

For decades, the government supported and funded ruling families that could tighten the national government's grip on power. Mindanao represents the decades-old problems of feudalism, greed and poverty gripping the Philippines. What is happening in the rest of the country is happening in the island tenfold. The ruling clans remain in power, living comfortably inside sprawling mansions, surrounded by their very own gun-wielding private armies.

Outside these fortresses, the people of Maguindanao go on with their daily struggle to earn a living. Their lives are at a standstill. They will flee when there is conflict and they will bury their dead when bullets overtake them. At harvest season, their hungry children will crawl under the mills for leftover kernels of corn.

Under the Lord's Shadows is part of a Jes Aznar's long-term documentary project in Mindanao. His project on the issue of land and feudalism in the Philippines led him to the island of Mindanao. Far away from the seat of power and urbanization, it's an island where our society's social, political, and economic conditions are magnified tenfold.

I wish not to say anything more maybe because I lost HOPE. Or maybe I have finally realized my silence is more valuable than what we have been all crying for a long time...

Statement of the University of the Philippines College of Mass Communication
On the second anniversary of the November 23, 2009 Ampatuan Massacre

DESPITE President Benigno Aquino III’s pledge that his administration will stop the killing of journalists, twelve have been killed since the Ampatuan Massacre of November 23, 2009 claimed the lives of 58 men and women, of whom 32 were journalists and media workers.

Neither the glacially slow trial of the accused in that massacre, nor the pledge Mr. Aquino made in his 2010 State of the Nation Address that he will “hold murderers accountable,” has made much of an impression on those who resent press attention. Not only have journalists been killed since November 2009. A number have also been threatened, sued for libel on the flimsiest grounds, barred from attending interviews and press conferences, and physically assaulted. In one of the more recent incidents, unidentified persons also burned a Catholic Church-owned radio station in Occidental Mindoro.

Mr. Aquino’s “hold murderers accountable” statement was the last he has made about the murder of journalists. He has since been silent on the subject, although he has criticized the press from time to time for its alleged bias against his administration and focus on his personal life.

At the same time, his administration has taken almost none of the steps agreed upon between media advocacy and journalists’ organizations and his communication group and the department of justice in July, 2010 as necessary to stop the killings. Among these were the formation of Quick Response Teams to immediately investigate the killing of journalists and to assure the integrity of evidence in the crime site, and Malacanang support for the reform of court rules and procedures to speed up the judicial process.

Mr. Aquino’s silence on the most recent incidents of journalists’ murders is equally unforgivable. And yet a statement from him each time a journalist is murdered declaring his impatience over the failure of the police to prevent it, and immediate police action in furtherance of the filing of the appropriate cases as a consequence, could help make would be killers hesitate by suggesting that things have changed and they could be prosecuted.

Meanwhile, Mr. Aquino has rejected the dismantling of private armies, even if they not only made the November 23 massacre possible, but have also been a factor in some cases in the 100 other places in the country where warlords have also privatized government security forces.

What has always been clear is the imperative of showing the killers and would- be killers of journalists that they can’t get away with murder. State failure to punish most of the killers of journalists—only ten have been convicted since 1986 out of 122 cases—is after all what continues to encourage not only the killing of journalists in the Philippines, but also their harassment. The whole world has known it since 2003, when the New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists found that the killings were due to the weaknesses of the justice system, and called for immediate government action--which, as usual, the past administration ignored.

Today Mr. Aquino seems to be as unconcerned over the killing of journalists in the Philippines as his predecessor, despite the rest of the world’s being sufficiently alarmed to have declared November 23, 2011 the International Day to End Impunity in recognition of that event’s significance not only to the state of press freedom in the Philippines, but also to the safety of journalists everywhere.

Charged with the education and training of future journalists and media practitioners, we in the University of the Philippines College of Mass Communication have the responsibility as well as the right to ask how many more must die before Mr. Aquino acts. So does the rest of the international press community—and so does every Filipino.

I have been finding my passion. And one of these favorite things is writing. Higher than this Internet CLOUD, I started capturing the Sunset, Luna and what lies in the streets with Myphone camera but then after drowning to this rock bottom, I found the Grand Canon! No where to go but up,up and away !

But just this week, my husband asked me why am I wasting my camera's shutter life. We finally had a dialogue in which he advised me to conserve my camera's and my energy and actuation. Then, I thought he is telling me some good viewpoints for life- Actuation,huh. Actuation, what?

For me, actuation is counting performance through detailed simple prolific ways! Getting vague!

Okay, hear this. We Hu-(wo)-man have our arms, hands, fingers, legs as actuators. Our body is close to its mileage being signaled by our moving parts. If my Left knee's Meniscal tear worsens, then I may have reached say, my 34kth actuation.

But going back to my camera, one should be fully aware of how long my shutter will last, This can be done by finding out the current shutter actuations or shutter count of my camera. It is the count on how many photos I have taken. This is the shutter life expectancy of my camera. Sometimes, it is a secret. It is hard to know how and how to find it out. Some camera manufacturers may not even give me the details. but I hope this too will change to openness and truth. Try to search online like that from Olegkikin.com or always Goggle it up!

I am spoiling it but hey, FYI...

For Canon,it does not store the shutter actuation in the EXIF data. So, to check your shutter count is through its EOS Info by AstroJargon.It gives more info than just the shutter counter, like the serial number, the camera model, the firmware version and the the owner or the date of results.. EOSInfo known as 40DShutterCount utility is an old edition but don't you worry, this program works with DIGIC III/IV DSLRs. Try if it works for the 500d. Oh, and it this is not for Macs, but for Pc's only...

I was looking forward to the old Buzz nights and performance noise hoping to record soon with my Gothic Scene.

I was just jamming with my College performing group lately to the point that this 5th of December, we will play again in one A-CAUSE-tic night at the Conspiracy Garden Cafe at Visayas Avenue,Quezon City.

And I was sooo moved by no Eraser head, but The Great David Lynch, so that,like him until 65 years old, I can still jam using 97% energy and 3% result with my beautiful mind-ful kindred friends...

Milwaukee's Infant Mortality

“YOUR BABY SLEEPING NEXT TO YOU CAN BE JUST AS DANGEROUS,” blurred by Milwaukee The Journal Sentinel..and yet minutes before city officials unveiled this campaign this Wednesday, the medical examiner's office announced that a 7-week-old baby was found dead on the South side because she/he was co-sleeping with his or her mother. The infant was reported to be the ninth Milwaukee baby to die this year from an unsafe sleep environment.

But my points to consider inthis hyped stereotyping, provoking and separation anxiety are these;

1. Golly, please tell me when they did this it was not taking the risk using a real knife and it was just the FAKE magic of Photoshop!

2. When I lived in Europe, Canada and the States , oh and with some Elite Pinoys residing in the Exclusive Villages equipped with their "First-World-individualistic-thinking, I tell you, man, these parents can afford to build a Guest Room, Powder Room, TV Room, Music Room, Game Room, Workout Room, Closet, Lanai, extended Garage Area, Half court sized Basketball Area, Workshop room, Potter's Wheel room, Jukebox Room etc etc. So, a Nursery or a Baby's Room is just another part of the HOUSE. That, for me, is affluently and fully respecting one's individual space.

But I belong to my Third World, middle class parenting and with a 12, 7, 5 and 2 year old boy,and not victims;

1. I tolerated them sleeping with me because I breastfeed them until I wean them at 2 y.o.

2. My children, together, with me, in our bed from time to time. Jam-packed!

3. When they turned 7 years old, I awarded them with the keys to their own rooms!

I believe all It takes is preparation, an open mind and proper time management to have no paranoia for so called "unsafe sleep" or "sudden infant death syndrome" (SIDS) causing infant mortality.

Mayor Tom Barrett told ABC News. ”Some ZIP codes in Milwaukee have infant mortality rates higher than Third World countries. That’s unacceptable.” “If the ads make some people uncomfortable, I guarantee it’s a lot less uncomfortable than having another baby die from co-sleeping,” a cause of death that is “so preventable,” he added.

I say, yeah,this advertising campaign WORKED!

BUT...

STOP the insanity! JUST BE LOVING!

BE AWARE that I am a SAFE and LOVING PARENT!

All it takes is MODERATE SPACE RESPECT!

It still is safe when you are conscious to be SAFE. But when you feel unconscious and so sleepy, have a proxy or an onlooker. Ask to be of help and be helped!-that 's how most aspects in life works too,right?!

Women say NO to WAR and assert that peace and justice must be won by means of PEACE! Once again, after the tragic events of conflict in Basilan and Zamboanga Sibugay, women and their
families have fled their homes and communities because of the outbreak of fighting.

We are doing this solidarity action for peace, to raise WOMEN’S PEACE VOICES above the din of war and to counter calls to “eradicate the enemy once and for all”. We want to listen to the voices of women affected by the conflict. We also hope to raise funds for relief goods for those who still
fear to return to their homes.

We invite ALL WOMEN who want to show their solidarity for peace to join in this open peace action. We encourage you to speak out, give a one minute statement of support for the peace processes.

We request you to bring a shawl of scarf that can be donated to the rummage sale ( for relief funds) but that we will use for the Peace Solidarity Ritual during the event. (Other items for relief or for the rummage sale will also be very gratefully received.)

I will be happy to see Matang Araw not in his black , but now in White, still sporting his long hair. Hmmm, I wonder how would my Roberto be in his dreads when it turns white then? But seriously, Time tested the Love and Passion of Pusongbughaw and Matang Araw to which husband and I witnessed and are fanatics to its beginning way back in Diliman...

Cinemanila International Film Festival

During my College days, I love doing volunteer work for International Film Festivals and productions. I'm a frustrated film student, maybe. But when the UP FILM Center declared that I am their Research Assistant, I quit. Why? because I did not want to sign my allowance for work. I just love "squatting" at the Center that much and I like the fact that I could sleep and bathe in it fortnights ,without commitments!

Then when I had my eldest, I volunteered too and brought him to Cinemanila office near Bagtikan, Makati. But I quit,again. Why ,I guess I'm better off a fanatic than its organizer. Things and need change.

But I always am proud to say , once a Cinemanila volunteer, always will love Cinema. I love Cinemanila!

How different is Cinemanila from the others? This is an annual film festival held in Manila founded by Filipino filmmaker Amable "Tikoy" Aguiluz in 1999. Its focus is on the cinema of the Philippines as well as the films of our neighboring Southeast Asian cinema.

My August Rush, my CASA , my Cello and my Silent Conservatory

Do you know why I can't get over the film, August Rush?

Please look for this beautiful film about re-searching and re-discovering where one's talents come from, then you'd understand my longing for the music.

I have a thing for the Cello and the dresses and the noise and it made me realize, hell yeah, I want to be a cellist!

Then I remember, why seek for Julliard when here in Pilipinas, in San Antonio, Zambales, the kids and I have long ago found a Sanctuary for the Arts. A little CCP perhaps and more than a family lot. It's called CASA SAN MIGUEL. CASA which means "home" and stands for " Creative Alternatives for Social Action ".

CASA was established on 1993. Indeed, it lives to its three pillars-Enlightenment, Empowerment, Excellence since the Mt.Pinatubo eruption. And since 1996, it was intended for scholarships at the Philippine High School for the Arts (where I found good friends and I pray my son would do too)and leading conservatories locally. CASA also aimed for the music institution at Germany and the United States, and to continue careers as teachers and professional musicians in our major orchestras and cultural institutions.

They give workshop programs especially to Zambales talents. My children can be considered because aside from the talent,err,Coke is my Mum's cousin-that's blood relation. That's music in the blood! But that's not an excuse. Must we search for it really? Not until recently. I guess that's a family lesson- just you wait for the exiled bloodline as it will soon discover and return. (Interjecting the upcoming Magsaysay Reunion) Oops,spoiler!

My roots are from San Marcelino but Pundaquit and my husband hails from San Antonio that's why we spend summers at their safer side. When in the CASA, we just silently listen and watch the performances. I once was just aiming for my kids to join the violin or the Arts workshop but it never happened. Maybe because it's not yet for those little fingers after all. It's not yet time. Nah, I've realized it's not them to be pushed by Nanay, Tatay or my in-laws. Maybe it is me who wanted to play all along. But hey, one good news, they also give a Parent-child violin and cello training. And guess what, they have workshops here in Manila at Miriam College (formely Maryknoll)

At last, I can selfishly admit, It was ME. I want to be a cellist- this is one of the many things I would like to become before I die..

But you see, the Classics and Conservatory belongs to Uncle Coke's. This Piano Guys group,I like...

There comes a point in my career when I felt I needed to go because I foresaw that I am are in a dead end. It's also a different story when in business operations, they say you are "redundant". But it all boils down to the 5 dreaded words to utter-I DRAG MYSELF TO WORK.

It's not that I can't see through and recommit anylonger, but it's more of re-thinking how to spend the last fire on my disposable lighter.

It's planning a strategy. It is implementing the wisest move. It is honing that Character and grasping to my only weapon-Attitude.

I believe that Quitters are Winners . I am a Quitter. I am a Winner. Logic? I don't know if I still have it but I have been inspired by Seth Godin's book The DIP.

For the nth time, I finally bid goodbye to the BPO Industry which molded me into being a true blooded Thespian. I transformed into being a Global Pinoy, engaging in its Multicultural Modern Discreet Colonialism and putting in the costume of a Stress Warrior with Katana Shields. This experience made me one seasoned actress. But as I pull the cable off my spotlight, I have seen the light and has redefined the word "RESIGN".

Did you know that Ramon Raphael Banzon, Miggy Borja, Raffy La Madrid, Paul Bryan Miranda, and Mek Yambao come together in their first ever group exhibition as an official art group? As they put it, "discovers unchartered terrain played out in unusual settings and circumstances. Through observation or pure imagination, strange encounters are conceived, which leads the mind to question its very own boundaries and re-examine what one considers "Strange"."

Their exhibit will run from 13-28 November 2011.

Kaloy Olavides, a graduate of University of the Philippines, Diliman Fine Arts is known for his performance art during his earlier works. He ventured into collage, video and sound art in recent years. He even plays Lirio Salvador's sculptured guitar in Elemento.

Kaloy, this time, "focuses on the play of language and the process of arriving at meaning(s). Still images, videos and a painting are employed as avenues in delivering messages through various communication methods. Participation of the viewer is necessary in uncovering the message as he/she will be taken into paths of different symbols and signs...."(d)effectivity complex" also demonstrates social, cultural and even intellectual commentary inscribed in each piece"

Beejay Esber’s DEOXYMETRICAL THUNDERBOLT AUTOPSY

1 (130 pound) whole artist, neck and giblets removed
28 cups sci-fi (robots, ufo’s and analog synthesizer sounds)
1/ 2 cup psychedelia, melted
1 whole joke
225 large wasteland movies, peeled and chopped
4,000album covers, peeled and chopped
49 stalks Rauschenberg, Basquiat and Oehlen chopped

250 broken dreams
1 cerebral fragments
½ melody
1 cup system
2 cups art
8 blank canvases
paint

Directions

1. Rub the artist inside and out with the art and the system. Place the artist in a large stock pot, and cover with cold water. Place in the refrigerator, and allow to soak in the art and system mixture 12 hours, or overnight.

2. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Thoroughly rinse the artist, and discard the art and system mixture.

3. Brush the artist with 1/2 the melted psychedelia. Place breast side down on a roasting rack in a shallow roasting pan. Stuff the artist with 225 large wasteland movies, 4,000 album covers, Rauschenberg, Basquiat and Oehlen cerebral fragments and melody. Scatter the remaining ingredients around the bottom of the roasting pan, and cover with the joke and broken dreams.

4. Roast uncovered 3 1/2 to 4 hours in the preheated oven, until the internal temperature of the thigh reaches 180 degrees F (85 degrees C). Carefully turn the artist breast side up about 2/3 through the roasting time, and brush with the remaining psychedelia. Allow the artist to stand about 30 minutes before carving.

5. Leave the artist alone and he will start to paint.

So, will you SHARE and BE there too? Just bring in some food,love,booze and noisesss! because that is how we play the sound!

Save the World's Saddest Dolphins Campaign Launch

My kids and I never watched any of the dolphin shows!
They haven't even seen those large aquariums sea creatures even!
I never introduced them to caged animals but when their Grandma took them to the Zoo and brought home a caged Dove, after 3 days, we let the bird flew somewhere else. Yahoo!

As I read this letter ,I was moved!

Dear Friends,

Warm Greetings from Earth Island Institute.

This early on, we would like to invite you to the launching of the campaign to Save the World's Saddest Dolphins led by Animal Concerns Research and Education Society of Singapore (ACRES) and Earth Island Institute Philippines (EII-Phils).

Since 2008, a total of 25 wild-caught dolphins were imported into the Philippines from the Solomon Islands. Despite scientific reports from no less than the International Union of Concerned Scientists (IUCN) that the harvest of the dolphins from the Solomon Islands may not be sustainable, these were nonetheless allowed into the country.

Further studies of dolphin-populations by inter-government scientists in the Solomon Islands has strengthened the initial findings that wild dolphin populations in the Solomons cannot sustain continued harvest. Finally, the Solomon Island Government itself announced that all dolphin captures in the territory will cease starting January 2012.

Given this, all dolphins now in the Philippines for training at the Ocean Adventure Park in Subic, must now be returned to the wild.

We urge you to join us in launching the Campaign to Save the World's Saddest Dolphins this November 12 and 13 at the R.O.X., Bonifacio High Street, Global City, Taguig, Metro Manila, 10:00 am to 7:00 pm. This is to inform the general public about this situation and urge the Philippine government to return the dolphins back to the Solomon Islands.

We shall be sending you all details of the venue and time of the launching. We hope you can block your schedule on the said date.

Khavn de la Cruz and Fando & Lis is part of this year’s Serial Killers: Welcome to the Club as part of the annual Philippine Art Trek organized by the Philippine Embassy in Singapore. Fando & Lis is Khavn's duo with soul sister. Their sound is tagged as post-rock/neo-folk by the Indies-independent music scene. They will perform and do a live musical scoring to his film. The Opening reception is today Wednesday, 9 November 2011, 6.30-10.30pm, with Guest of Honor Mr. Jose Isidro Camacho, Vice Chairman for Asia Pacific of Credit Suisse. Exhibition runs from 9 - 30 November 2011.

I am back watching TV, after a long solitary denial, for I am now closely monitoring and I'm bombarded by the news through family dinners and some closed door meetings. ( Another hot news!)

It's good that my wise boyz prefer to engage in silent war of violence over money, power and jealousy through their PS games with the LED, not with their real bloods. Ram Revilla’s brother arrested, tagged as mastermind in actor’s killing

MANILA, Philippines – The brother of Ramgen Jose Bautista has been tagged as the alleged mastermind of his killing last Friday, Radyo INQUIRER 990 reported on Tuesday.
Quoting authorities, the report said Ramon Joseph Bautista, the younger brother of the victim, was arrested past 11:00 p.m. Monday in Bacoor, Cavite.
No other details were available as of posting time.
Ramgen and Ramon are both sons of former Senator Ramon Revilla Sr.
Ramgen, also known by his screen name Ram Revilla, was stabbed to death in his family’s house in Paranaque City while his girlfriend, Janelle Ann Caren Manahan, was shot but she survived.
Two other suspects are under police custody.

MANILA, Philippines - A task force is now looking into the possibility that a relative was the mastermind behind the killing of aspiring actor-politician Ramgen “Ram” Bautista Revilla, son of former Senator Ramon Revilla Sr.

Cavite Mayor Strike Revilla, the victim’s half brother, said this will be a big blow to the family if it turns out to be true.

Nonetheless, they will not protect their relative if proven that he or she is the mastermind, the older Revilla said.

Ram was shot and stabbed dead in his house in Phase 6, BF Homes in Parañaque City before midnight on Friday.

His girlfriend, Janelle Manahan, was also shot but is now recovering at the Asian Hospital in Alabang, Muntinlupa City

Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. is looking into a possibility that “love triangle” or “politics” may be the motive behind the death of his half-brother inside their home in Parañaque City shortly before midnight on Friday.

Ramgen Jose Bautista, also known by his screen name Ram Revilla, 23, was pronounced dead on arrival at 12:15 a.m. on Saturday at the Parañaque General Hospital due to multiple gunshot and stab wounds.

The victim’s girlfriend, Janelle Ann Caren Manahan, is in critical condition at the Asian Hospital and Medical Center in Alabang, Muntinlupa City, after she was shot in the jaw and sustained stab wounds on both sides of her chest.

Senator Revilla has offered a P500,000 reward for any information that could lead to the arrest of the two unidentified suspects.

The Revilla family and police investigators are closely looking into either “love triangle” or “politics” as the motive behind Ramgen’s death after finding clues on Ramgen’s cell phone.

“We’re looking into the cell phone of my brother and it’s possible that there’s a love triangle motive here. We are waiting for the recovery of his girlfriend who might be able to shed light on the matter,” he said.

The police are also looking into the political angle since Ramgen had expressed his intent to join politics in Cavite.

“Wag naman sana politics. [I hope it’s not politics.] For now, we are exploring all possible leads on the case,” he said.

Parañaque Police chief Senior Superintendent Billy Beltran said Ramgen and Janelle were shot on the second floor of the Revilla residence along President Avenue, BF Homes, Parañaque City.

“We are investigating the subdivision guards for possible lapses because the security outpost is located near the victim’s residence,” Beltran said.

Beltran said the househelp and aide curiously did not hear any gun shots inside the house. He added that they were collating statements from four other relatives inside the house when the incident happened.

Ramgen is the son of former Sen. Ramon Revilla Sr. and Genelyn Magsaysay.

Ramgen’s younger sister, Ma. Ramona Belen Bautista, 22, said she saw two unidentified men barged into her brother’s room, one of whom was armed and wore a mask.

Ramona told the police that she saw the masked man and Ramgen arguing then she heard shots while she was at the next room.

“When I went in, I was shocked to see blood sputtered everywhere. I shouted his name – Ramgen! Ramgen! But he did not respond,” Ramona told the police.

Ramona was then forcibly dragged to a van outside their house by the suspects who fled and sped southbound. She was abandoned near a mall on Zapote-Alabang Road, Pamplona, Las Piñas City.

She then sought the help of Starmall security guard Marlon Bacalando and was brought to Las Piñas for investigation.

“Robbery was already ruled out because nothing was taken in the house. I am still puzzled because I don’t know any enemies of Ram or anyone who hated him that much to kill him,” said the senator.

Police recovered a dagger pouch, a .45 caliber pistol whose serial number is registered to the Revillas and is confirming if the gun was used in the killing. The evidence were brought to the police crime laboratory in Makati City.

Senator Revilla said it was “extremely difficult” for them to relay the news to their ailing father, former Sen. Ramon Revilla Sr.

“We already told him and he’s in deep shock – tulala. We asked the help of his doctor and nurse to check on his condition,” he said.

Revilla said he would do everything to catch the killers immediately.

“We won’t stop until we give my brother justice,” he added.

The wake will be held at the Angelus Eternal Gardens in Imus, Cavite.

We Filipinos are used to "Ama" for the Fathers - patriarchy. But today, I woke up and just realized , this Family Sunday , my husband and our 4 boys left me sleeping ,( because I always wish them to give me a silent-day-sleep-from-work ,now they did! ouch! so BE careful what you wish for) "Ama" seems to be a rip off from the word "Amma", one great feminine act. I tend not to be a sexist lexicon here , but I am in deep happy-ness debunking the development of this title. I am happy to feel my husband is an Amma to our sonsss way much more than me.(for another issue)

It only hit me too why my god daughter, Andre , calls my Auntie , Amma. Amma is indeed a GREAT NAME.

Arriving home, he reported " We had French Fries and your Tofu was the main course, Momma " ." And we divided the cake and cookies among us friends for dessert. I drank water while they had their iced tea."

Well, we'll have dinner at the mall so he can have his Timezone after this Metro number coding ceases at 1900hr (patience is a virtue than a must!) But his Lola (my Mother!!!) arrived with the now working China manufactured Apad , another cake and Col. Sander's. Arggh!!! I'll just munch their salad!

What???!!!

Not what you're thinking, baby! This hash is way too far from that other hash high.

You've seen this symbol for short messages made popular by Twitter or identi.ca. This is used in Twitter because those birdies were noisy but in all honesty, since 2003, tags were introduced ,as I may say, #Delicious-ly!!

Yes, Delicious started it all then other social software websites – such as YouTube, Technorati, and Last.fm – did the tagging. Gmail used "Labels" but earlier today Google in Google Plus (G+) has made all hashtags searchable as hyperlinks automatically leading you to a page displaying everything with that tag! I like it +1!

Still, hashtag whaat?

Tag, Metadata,Web 2.0 services,blog or event, part of a controlled vocabulary - your online identity!

In Layman's term, hashtags are used before words, phrases, names, photos, any subject or whole sentences. It is a prefix using the symbol #. For its syntax and format, that's for another discussion, but the jist is you see it like #Korn (the band) or #WaitingForForever (the movie) or even #ohmygodyoudontknowthis (a sentence). Try to search these and you would be happy with the results!

What's the use of a hashtag?

They are your “tags” used on social bookmarking sites like Twitter or even Flickr. It describes what you are posting. Say, the hashtags on G+, it uses simple word(s) to describe your chosen topic setting it in a clear and concise manner. So, if you add a hashtag, before a word, to your message, your message can be searched. But if you post the same message not using a hashtag, it may not be found .

For example:

If you post something, your post may be searchable, but not in the context you want it to be seen. Say, you want to declare "I love Thursdays". Posted. One can search using "love" or "Thursday" or even "Thursdays" but your message is lost. But if you use "#IloveThursdays", this exact post can be found with the meaning you want to convey. It's simply using the "tag" to be more PRECISE! Semantics? Let's move on.

Also for spam, advantages and disadvantages, well, I am aware hashtags are dynamic so just wait and research more about it. But for now, let's learn to use and get addicted to the Hashtags!

I have been blessed to be reacquainted with a good friend during my, say , Awakening. True to its root word, from http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/reacquainted , means

ac·quaint [uh-kweynt] verb (used with object)

2.to furnish with knowledge; inform (usually followed by with ):

And indeed, (usually followed by with ) I have been much more AWARE (usually followed by with ) with my HER-STORY.

I feel I'm grasping for words to express how best to send my gratitude to him, but I guess, my silence would mean a lot better and it's most sincere than brag about THANKing him. You see , he had that eye and captured my most SOUL-ful moments from his camera. You might ask why and how did it come to be? Maybe for one good reason, he is one true ACE fotoperiodista.

In line with this, I read that the The Philippine Center for Photojournalism (PCP), is in full blast getting ready for its 6th Professional Photojournalism Workshop which will be held from November 23 to 27 2011 at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone.

They are now accepting participants for this five-day intensive workshop which aims to raise what they say as the "level of understanding of the roots of and current trends on photography and photojournalism. And that "the workshop aims to enhance artistic, aesthetic and ethical practice of the profession."

So who are the guides? Who will be the Instructors? No other than The Professionals! Drum roll please...

Do you want to experience a different kind of Sunday? On October 23 from 9:00am - 5:00pm , at the Bahay ni Isis located at #3 Marunong Street, Brgy. Central,Quezon City, Philippines, the kids and I will be will do.

It willbe at a class that fosters cultural appreciation and healing through one's creative expression. We hope to learn painting on glass . We are looking forward to do this as a form of our creative expression, making use of the Baybayin characters-the ancient Filipino script, all integrated in this art workshop.

They said this aims to create healing images adding the BAYBAYIN which will re-affirm one’s gifts. It also encourages participants to think, paint, create while on and in uplifting thoughts, words and images. One way or the other, this will nurture one's physical, emotional, mental and spiritual well-being. I believe it will be. This will happen for the children and I on this different Family Sun-Day!

A Thursday of Steve Jobs, Apple,Natalie,Camelot and Ophelia-the Classics!

I was excited to do a pre-birthday celebration later at the re-opened artist haven in Malate Manila called Penguin for I created my so called death which I consider will be ended at a renewal later by 2230hr.

But there is more than what this Thursday morning and mourning has in store for me today! From a post of trying to explain Ophelia and now, to the passing of the brilliant Steve Jobs,in the silence of the Apple locations and half mast American flags, I reaffirm I am sanely insane!

I guess we all are insane. This so called insanity was one sane realization. Look at Steve.His ideas now made our lives better ! That madness, that passion and dedication will allow one to endure and to laugh, live and love more.

To the extreme of Camelot, I thank the lessons of a joyful sorrow created by Guinevere. But closer to that of Shakespeare's Hamlet, I consider myself to be once an Ophelia.Yes,I am one sane Ophelia (for now). But I will not let it drown me anymore. And I will choose not be scared any longer because I was moved by Steve Jobs.

I'd wake up and take a bite of that Apple forever.

Rest in peace, Steve Jobs. Padayon po.

Koyang Edgar “Koyang” Avenir, RIP

In the music scene, I know of 2 Koyangs - Jess Santiago and Veteran jazz guitarist Edgar “Koyang” Avenir.
Not to compare, but I would commend them for being true Koyangs meaning Kuya,big brother, mentor and guide. Both are excellent musicians,real artists who could play with anybody. Both are generous musicians and have been willing to help fellow artists. Both are part of my UP learning years!

But Koyang ,the Area One kid, who grew up with Ed “Sarge” Cariño and John Lesaca, who played with Bong Peñera at his young age as well as the Sangkatutak Band (Cariño, Ivy Violan and Richard Merk.), who did arrangements for Mishka Adams, who regularly performed at La Cuisine Francaise in Makati,at 61, has died early on Saturday of pneumonia from lung cancer.

The wake started Sunday at the Loyola Memorial Chapels, Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon City. This will be his last night. Interment will be tomorrow, September 23, 2011 at the Himlayang Pilipino, Tandang Sora, Quezon City after the 2PM mass..

RIP,Koyang,RIP.

Reclaiming Innocence at East Avenue Medical Center's TAHAN-TAHANAN

October is the declared Children's Month. October is my eldest son's and my birth month.It is also San Mig's Oktoberfest which kicks off this Friday at the MOA!

But seriously now, in line with the children's month,the freshmen students of UPCFA Studio Arts block Y will hold an exhibit entitled Reclaiming Innocence kicking off this Sept 19 2011 at The East Ave Medical Center Lobby.

As Vim Nadera puts it, the exhibit will put together artworks in the themes of looking back at who you were, who you are, and what you can be, propelled into the future by dreams, aspirations and experiences from our childhood. It has also been conceived/created/organized with the desire of inspiring and instilling dreams into children especially those who are hindered by illnesses, disorders, disabilities and into people who occasionally find themselves equally impaired through other means. This exhibit is about hope and giving hope.

Half of the profit from any artwork sold will be donated to the Tahan-Tahanan Foundation. The Tahan-Tahanan is a halfway home for the children with non-communicable diseases and their family/caregivers who come from the provinces and seek treatment in Metro Manila hospitals.

“SOUK! A shopping journey” is a fund-raising project for the benefit of the Carewell foundation. With the generous support of Rockwell Land .

And who is Carewell?

Carewell was established in order to help persons with cancer and their loved ones not only to survive – but even thrive – amidst the challenges of living with this illness. They provide support groups and counseling, medical consults and referrals, and talks and wellness activities for all persons affected by cancer. They are a partner organization of the Cancer Support Community (CSC), the global leader and the world’s largest provider of free, community-based psychosocial support. CSC combines the strengths and capabilities of The Wellness Community and the Gilda’s Club Worldwide.

As of 2011, Carewell has served hundreds of members at its center in Makati City and in various Metro Manila hospitals. All its resources, services, and programs are offered free-of-charge to persons affected by cancer and their loved ones.

Carewell is volunteer-driven, and relies on the generous contributions of organizations, groups, and individuals whose lives have been touched by cancer. Through the funds raised by this event, Carewell will be able to continue serving the Philippine cancer community – particularly, its poorest members – free of charge.

I guess this is really my Christ Year! Going 34, The Universe has been letting me realize minute details of my life which when summed up, totals to what I AM! And it has been re affirmed, though ended, on this 40th death day - I struggled to LIVE!!

It started with a big career shift from my comfy Nova to back at my Mecca -the old UrbanBank Plaza. From PSI days to my now Kanluran a.k.a. WEST life, I continue to treasure this site. It has been a focal point to my creativity too. Not to mention that it's near everything I feel- lights, streetfoods, SaGuijo, White Space and yeah, the dreaded Pasong Tamo Ext. which I traversed during that damn Tropical dep leading to my DNC. Yeah, declaring Hyperplasia at it's finest! Rain ,rain go away and raining men go away too! Happy raging hormones must only be served to my dear beloved husband! Done struggling with my version of the Temptations of Christ-DONE!

And when I declared I want to know my written Religion,(not sex, not drugs but just Rock and Roll),which is "INC" (or shall I say INCOMPLETE hahaha), from my dead father's blood, the Peacemaker's , InterFaith and URI allowed me to BE. This End of Ramadan was a begginning for me to realize how to throw my prejudices away in a jiffy and be covered with the feminine Malong once more. DANCE is my RELIGION!

Reunions, Tambulan, Dutdutan, Sarah's, UPD- these were where I was during the first few days of wondering and literally wandering (you know why I thank you for this Rem Z.) The CCP and The Manila Film Center had been a breather and for the first time, I shed a tear looking at the Manila Sunset. Although, I tried a different approach , say at 3am , by the bay, that was when I realized tears can't come down rolling , and all I just needed was to breathe. "LU" "HA" as the Baybayin goes, "LU HA = hangin lang = harmony with "lu" = pain" or it's saying hang+in there! But in reverse, I did the worst. I communed with Marlboro Red's Pollution while settling to My UP FILM CENTER smoking SPOT!(smoking no pot with my cousin Mokong!)Bad!so bad!!

Speaking of bad, the Tourism Industry allowed the return of a prodigal daughter, but not being in reservations any longer , but by continuing a different Tourism pressing issue-Kidney Trafficking, Mining,etc.,- I declined their offer! I'd rather go back to the field and to strengthen my thesis: SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITY BASED TOURISM. This has been Me with my days and nights spent at my relatives', hosts families during the KG '97 Tour, strangers, locals, tribes and friends'. And so, Now, I promise I will be testing the white waters and climbing hills so that next time , kids can be empowered to pack their bags, challenge their walk, explore local gastronomy and experience wholistic beauty by affirming this great synergestical majestic view from a different angle!

This is what I AM! This is my spectra! Not nothing at all, but an intertwining speck on the spectrum!No more cruxificion needed! Amen!

.MOV International Film, Music, & Literature Festival was established in January 2002 by filmmaker Khavn De La Cruz. It is the Philippines’ first digital film festival, as well as the world’s only creative initiative that celebrates film, music, and literature exclusively.

.MOV Fest kicked off in 2002 in Greenbelt, becoming the first ever digital film festival in the Philippines, established long before Cinemalaya and Cinema One Originals. The main goal has always been to advance the cause of the digital revolution in the local scene by showcasing films from Philippine and foreign directors, both veterans and amateurs. The first .MOV Fest proved to be a success, compelling festival director Khavn De La Cruz to stage a second one in 2005 in SM Cebu. The theme of the second edition focused on Southeast Asian Cinema while the third edition, held in Robinson’s Movieworld in 2008, paid tribute to the pillars of the local independent digital film movement Kidlat Tahimik, Lav Diaz, and Rox Lee.

In the past, .MOV Fest has built upon its reputation as a credible gathering of cinema enthusiasts throughout the nation, having invited major international personalities such as Rob Nilsson (Cannes & Sundance winner, USA), Roger Gonin (Festival Director of Clermont-Ferrand, France), and Andrew Boulton (BBC, UK).

The 4th .MOV International Film, Music, & Literature Festival will run from September 1 to 6, 2011. A sensitive film, constructed as ebb and flow. In the first part, old friends look back on their childhood by the light of the moon. In the second part, young people come together in a place in the sun. The director of "Love Conquers All," Rotterdam winner in 2007, shot the film in the Malaysian village where she was born.
The first part of Year Without a Summer is set largely in the moonlight. On the evening when the singer Azam returns to the village he was so eager to flee as a little boy, he goes fishing in a boat with his friend Ali and his friend’s wife Minah.
They bob around in a boat as they tell each other old myths. When Minah shows she can hold her breath for three minutes and Azam does the same later, the camera waits calmly with the others until the time has passed. But for Azam that starts to last a very long time.

LEO EMMANUEL CASTRO
Cultural artist; Anthropologist; Executive Director of SANGHABI, Inc. Sanghabi means one weave in English. The name serves as the group's metaphor for the culmination of years of development of ideas and concepts after more than a decade of facilitating workshops, doing performances as well as conducting its own research on Philippine culture.

MINIFRED GAVINO
Developed the Baybayin Creativity Workshops-Classes along with other artist-teachers, she continues to develop other Baybayin creative works. She has been an artist-teacher-facilitator of creative workshops, rituals, performances, games, eco-sensitive team process/orienteering, peace and environmental camps. She traveled with the University of the Philippines' Kontra-Gapi to Europe, North America, and Asia in promoting Philippine culture through performances and workshops on indigenous music and dances. She is a facilitator-member of SANGHABI and the program co-director of GINHAWA, Inc.

REIMON COSARE
Reimon has been studying and teaching Baybayin for several years now. He is currently a "career volunteer", engaging in NGO work in three organizations which he is part of namely: Peacemaker's Circle Foundation, Inc., Integral Art Metta and SANGHABI. He is a former professor of the Far Eastern University.

This is a must see for my eldest Gabriel and I. It's where I derived his name, that's why. And it's FREE!!

Dung-aw is a historical and musical film that glimpses into the heroism of 18th century revolutionary leader Gabriela Silang (Armida Siguion-Reyna). Scriptwriter Mario O’Hara depicts the courage and compassion of Gabriela, despite limited information about her. Set in the time of Spaniards’ usurpation of land, products and the indulto de comercio, landowning couple Diego and Gabriela resorts to tricking the colonizers with the aid of their people. A farm hand betrays them, leading to the assassination of Diego. Diego’s death leads Gabriela to pick up her long knife and lead the revolution herself despite great odds. She is eventually captured and publicly executed. A young revolutionary in Gabriela’s army keeps his knife and awaits for the coming of a second Gabriela.

Dung-aw refers to an Ilocano tradition of extolling a deceased person’s good deeds, much like a pasyon in Lent. In the film, Gabriela’s dung-aw cries out her bravery and continuing quest for freedom.

Screening is tomorrow, August 10, 7pm at the UP Film Center, Cine Adarna, University of the Philippines, Diliman, Quezon City . This is part of the 3rd Pandayang Lino Brocka Political Film and New Media Festival. It is for Free admission or it's also not painful to have P10 donation ticket.

He was just more than a brother to a Thespian, Pinky. He was great in his own advocacies!

Manny Amador has passed away at his apartment in Baranggay Lahug, Cebu City. DZMM reports that he died of a cardiac arrest.

Manny was the lead guitarist of The Breed. Their debut album, Free, with ten hard rockin’ tracks included Black Mercedes Benz. Many of the band's songs were written by Manny and willnever be the same again.

Manny went back to Cebu but still played music. He has this band, Wall Of Sound, and would play here at Metro Manila for gigs.

He was also one of The Internet's 10 Most Influential Filipinos by being a freelance writer and IT consultant. He owns a small company, magNET Communications, is into web development, with www.iconn.com.ph/magnet/, www.xstitch.com.ph and the Philippine League for Democratic Telecommunicators, Inc.(PLDTI).

From an article by the authors of WIRED! Phil., Manny was sharing his "Visions for the Net."

"Amador envisions a "competitive, innovative industry that can make a significant and positive contribution to the economic, intellectual, and even spiritual development of our country," which can be achieved by having ready and affordable access to the Internet and telecommunications facilities.

"In the short term, we will fight tooth and nail against the imposition of mandatory metering on local calls. For the future, however, we intend to work on the dismantling of monopolistic structures in telecommunications and related sectors." He mentions the overhaul of RA 7925 to make it pro-consumer, scraping of the SAS to encourage competition, better anti-monopoly laws, anti-metering laws, and promotion of the wide use of innovative technologies in telecommunications as some of the battles to be faced. He adds, "These may sound like lofty goals for a small organization that doesn't have enough money to place an ad in the papers, but I believe that being on the side of truth and justice brings with it blessings and moral strength."

Director Rainier, Producer Bingbong and Production Assistant Jocelyn are well-to-do, well-educated film school graduates who are dead set on making an Oscar worthy film. They believe they have a winning script, the energy and the drive to make their dreams come true. Like most filmmakers they know, they have devised a screenplay that will show the real essence of our culture: poverty. In the course of one day, they brainstorm and exhaust all possible treatment of their project: the story of Mila (Eugene Domingo), a mother from the slums, who out of desperation to survive, has sold her child to a pedophile. As they discuss the possible executions of the story, the movie-within-a-movie gets reborn in Jocelyn’s imagination several times. As a gritty no frills neo-realist film, as a glossy musical, as an over-the-top melodrama and as a docu drama using non-actors. For their last task of the day, they visit the dumpsite for the first time. As filmmakers gunning for authenticity, they get excited with the ”beauty” of the squalor around them. The once illustrious Lopez-Aranda family has faded. Celia, once the darling of Philippine opera, and Gaspar, a distinguished ex-congressman, lacked the shrewdness to maintain their once elegant status. Saddled with a failed marriage, a vanishing career and mounting debt, Celia sold her share of their house to Gaspar, now bedridden. She managed to stay for free in exchange for being Gaspar’s caregiver. Gaspar loves listening to Celia’s arias. This idyllic arrangement is shattered when he slips into a coma. His daughter, Raquel, comes home from the US, determined to sell the house to salvage her own economic woes abroad. This signals Celia’s impending homelessness. With only a few heirlooms to sell, she is at her wits’ end. A fervent believer of the Sto. Nino, she hopes for a miracle. She dresses up her grandson, Antony, in Sto. Nino robes to prepare him for the coming fiesta. She insists this will invoke a miracle that will awaken Gaspar and stop Raquel from selling the house. Antony’s father, Mombic, while processing his travel papers to work in Dubai, tries to strike a deal with Raquel in selling the property without his mother Celia’s knowledge. Merced, Mombic’s sister, reluctantly takes on the burden of taking care of Celia and a household sliding to ruin. The family members clash in a confrontation that reveals their weaknesses and their hopeless ideals. Mombic leaves his son to the care of his mother and sister, Merced, the only family member who quietly accepts her fate. As a final ditch to awaken Gaspar, Celia holds a tertulia, inviting her aging opera singer friends. They sing arias, oblivious to the ravages of time, crippled reminders of a glorious past. In the middle of a chorus, Gaspar quietly dies, sealing the fate of his sister and the mansion that once was called Villa Los Reyes Magos. Celia looks out into her once beautiful garden. She sees Antony, still in his Sto. Nino robe, playing in the garden, offering a little illusion of hope to a past that can never be rekindled.

I-LIBINGS by Rommel Sales

A coming of age story about Isabel’s lessons and realizations on life and death as a funeral videography intern. Due to her family situation, Isabel is cynical and skeptical of everything that comes her way. When she enters the I-libings for her required college internship, she sees it as the worst internship her college adviser could suggest to her. Later as she accumulates her required hours, she realizes that the company is not just a place where videographers make money out of other people’s misfortunes but is a place where the dead and the grieving receive special attention. It all comes full circle when Isabel is faced with an unusual family tragedy. Isabel realizes that her internship might have been just 200 hours, but the lessons that the I-libings left her would last a lifetime.

Sarah is a nurse at a Public Maternity Hospital. The hospital is abuzz with pregnant mothers of all shapes and sizes in different stages of labor. The hospital is short on staff on Christmas Day so Sarah is forced to put in a double shift. Sarah observes the women coming and going in her ward, noting who is a first-timer and who is a veteran. Meanwhile, the wards are overcrowded : two women and their babies sharing single beds while those in labor are spilling unto the hallways. Sarah takes these all in stride, her heart and mind laboring over her own personal pains. 30 Seconds to Mars rocks Manila in one-night-only concert

For the first time ever, 30 Seconds to Mars brings its brand of arena rock to the Filipino audience with their one-night-only concert invasion on July 29, 2011. The Mars Army is called on to troop to the Trinoma Mindanao Open Parking on that day to witness the band perform hits from their albums “30 Seconds to Mars” (2002), “A Beautiful Lie” (2005) and “This is War” (2009) and rock the world to the edge of evolution, in a manner of speaking.

30 Seconds to Mars is an American rock band from Los Angeles with its current lineup of Jared Leto (lead vocals, rhythm guitar, songwriter), his older brother Shannon Leto (drums, percussion) and Tomo Miličević (lead guitar, keyboards). In its band profile, Jared notes, “The name 30 Seconds To Mars has little to do with space, the universe or anything like that.”

The band name had apparently come from the title of a sub-section of an online thesis by a former Harvard professor that they had found. Shannon elaborates, “It was talking about where technology was going; the evolution of man and how that plays a role… It was like the exponential growth of humans. We are literally 30 seconds away from Mars. Everything is right here and right now…”

“Most importantly, it is a good representation of our sound. It's a phrase that is lyrical, suggestive, cinematic, and filled with immediacy,” Jared adds.
